“Contained and baked in the desert” found its shape during this time of self- isolation. The vessels took on a life of their own inside these small compartments…much like most of us have done. They have all been made from plants collected in Far West NSW…. plants which are increasingly vulnerable in this time of ongoing drought and baking summers. I had a delightful few days at Balranald on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River and at the gateway to the dry country. Lots of basket making material by the river... bulrush, sedge and willow and inland in the mallee hills are patches of Dodder Vine - wonderful for basket making. The workshop was at the local art gallery , a must if you are passing through. An enthusiastic group of women made some wonderful creations that reflected their part of the world.
Three wonderful days making baskets with the Menindee community. Thanks to the Menindee Central School - a real community hub.
Yes its all happening... Rick Ball and I will be exhibiting our work at the Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery, opening on the 30th September. Following that I will also be having a separate exhibition at the Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens. This exhibition will be based on my interest in the flora of Far West NSW.
